Watch rare beauties of yesteryear up for sale at classic car auction

CHOICES, choices… these two stunning and incredibly rare classics are being put up for sale in the spring.

First up is a 1948 AC 2.0-litre Drophead Coupe – said to be the sole roadworthy survivor of just 14 models built.

Restored during the early 1990s and treated to further fettling including an engine overhaul in 2009 at a cost of some £18,000, this handsome five-seat tourer is said to have been “used regularly but sparingly over the years”.

The rich Burgundy paintjob and contrasting beige hood complement the red leather interior, while its light aluminium body and six-cylinder, triple carburettor engine ensure it is surprisingly nimble.

It’s up for grabs with an estimated price tag of £20,000 to £25,000 at the H&H Classics auction at Duxford, Cambridgeshire, on March 18.

Also likely to attract interest at the same sale is one of just 50 surviving Hillman Aero Minx models.

The 1933 “March type” bodied example in green with biscuit leather trim and upholstery comes with the correct 1185cc four-cylinder petrol engine, manual four-speed gearbox, 12v electrical system and still carries its original registration number.

Full weather equipment in Double Duck material comprises a hood, side screens and hood cover. The sporting appeal is further enhanced by a folding windscreen.

Valued at £10,000 to £12,000, it has been with its present owner since 1978 and has undergone a major, well-documented, restoration programme during that time.
