Watch rare 1988 BMW M3 EVO II that's set to fetch £70k

THIS 1988 BMW M3 EVO II is one of only 500 models ever made – which is why it is expected to fetch up to £70,000 in an online auction.

It is regarded today as one of BMW’s most rare and collectible sports cars, one of the best drivers’ machines ever made, as well as one of the most successful racing touring cars of all time.

The EVO II owes its reputable performance to its 220PS 2.3-litre petrol engine, five-speed manual Getrag gearbox and stunning power-to-weight ratio – all developed by the BMW Motorsport Division with an eye on competition.

Finished in Macau Blue, this well-maintained saloon’s features include a rear spoiler, split-rim BBS alloy wheels, flared wheel arches, brake air-intakes, front splitter and M3 Motorsport Division badges.

The well-preserved interior includes the original Buffalo Silver half-leather seats with grey check trim and tricolour M badge, M steering wheel and gear knob, sliding steel sunroof and roof-mounted computer. The centre console plaque shows it is number 114 of 500 cars made.

It’s being sold by online classic car auctioneer The Market – themarket.co.uk – in a sale running from next Monday until the close of play on Monday, July 6.

Director Tristan Judge said: “The E30 M3 is a bona fide legend thanks to its stunning looks, relative ease of maintenance and the fact that it drives every bit as well as its reputation would have you believe.”
