Watch raging Leeds apartment fire at 8th floor Granary Wharf flat as MP highlights cladding danger

A dramatic video of a fire at an eighth-floor Granary Wharf flat prompted a Leeds MP to warn of the dangers of unsafe cladding.

Three people inside the apartment block, called Blue, in Little Neville Street, escaped with their lives, before firefighters arrived at around 8.20pm.

Firefighters used aerial appliances to spray water onto the flames.

Labour MP for Leeds Central Hilary Benn replied to a tweet by Leeds Cladding Scandal with the message: "I am very relieved to hear that everyone is safe and thank you West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service for responding so swiftly.

"But this reminds us all of the danger that leaseholders in blocks with unsafe cladding and missing firebreaks live with every single day."

The flames erupted from the balcony, which overlooks Granary Wharf and Leeds Railway Station.

The dramatic sight led to around 30 calls to the fire service from members of the public.

Two fire appliances each from Leeds, Hunslet and Killingbeck, plus one each from Moortown, Stanningley and Morley attended, along with the aerial appliances from Leeds and Bradford and other specialist appliances and officers from throughout the brigade area.

The fire was extinguished and firefighters used aqua vacs to help clear the building of excess water.
