Watch police carry out explosion after WW2 bomb discovered at West Boldon farm

A controlled explosion has been carried out on a World War Two bomb found on a West Boldon farm.

The device was discovered by a woman at her farm at around 2.45pm on Thursday.

She called the police after suspecting it was an unexploded bomb dating back to the Second World War.

Bomb disposal experts descended on the scene who confirmed it was an unexploded German incendiary aircraft bomb.

Northumbria Police confirmed the bomb was destroyed following a controlled explosion at the farm.

Nobody was hurt as a result of the incident.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "Shortly before 2.45pm yesterday (Thursday) we were contacted by a member of the public who had found a suspected unexploded Second World War bomb at a farm in West Boldon.
