Watch Plate Day's big moment at Newcastle racecourse as winners and losers are decided

There was a nailbiting finish to the 2019 Northumberland Plate as Who Dares Wins triumphed much to the delight of his owners who were celebrating right next to the finishing post as their horse snatched a terrific victory at the death.

The final stages of the race were about as exciting as you could get, with a packed grandstand all cheering for their horses as they galloped towards the finish.

At one stage it looked like Newcastle owned and trained Dubawi Fifty would take the spoils, with owners Paul and Clare Rooney and trainer Karen McLintock looking set for a memorable victory on home turf, but Who Dares Wins soared through at the finish to claim victory.

The win prompted hugs and shouts of delight from owners Henry Parsonby Racing who enthusiastically cheered on their horse all the way.

Speaking after the presentation of the Betfair Exchange Northumberland Plate, Henry said he was “absolutely delighted” by Who Dares Win’s victory, having returned to Newcastle Racecourse   looking for a win.

Unfortunately there wasn’t much time for celebrating in the winners enclosure as he had to dash off to catch a flight.

Winning jockey Tom Marquand was the toast of the Racecourse as he received plenty of hard-earned pats on the back from supporters as well as plenty of cheers from the punters who’d put their money on him and his horse.
