Watch pilots pull off miraculous landings in terrifying weather conditions

As winds continue to batter the country, pilots have their work cut out for them at airports.

According to the Met Office, winds reached speeds of more than 40mph this week and they are only set to get worse as the days go by.

These high winds meant that three flights were forced to abort their landings, before performing a 'go-around' manoeuvre.

Dramatic footage shows the moment that pilots at Manchester Airport remain cool, calm and collected when forced to abort their landings at the last minute.

The footage was captured by YouTube channel AviationUpClose and shared with the Manchester Evening News and Liverpool ECHO.

Matt Jones from AviationUpClose said: "The weather was definitely unseasonable for a September afternoon with a stiff wind out of the West North West gusting to 35 knots or 40mph.

"To add to this there were periods of torrential rain showers battering the airport. Pilots did a fantastic job getting aircraft down safely in the conditions.

"There were quite a few wobbly and rocking landings in the crosswind.

"Three aircraft, a private jet, a Finnair Airbus A321 and Brussels Airlines Airbus A319 - all due to the gusting wind conditions.

"It was absolutely spectacular."
