WATCH: Philip Rivers isn’t sure Tom Brady is the outright GOAT

How do you measure greatness among quarterbacks in the NFL? Is it wins? Passing records? Super Bowls?

Philip Rivers isn’t exactly sure, but he knows it’s not just Super Bowl rings.

In an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show, the Chargers quarterback said he’s always believed that Tom Brady is one of the greatest QBs in NFL history, but isn’t sure he’s the outright GOAT.

After all, if it’s only about rings, how do you explain Brady’s fourth from Super Bowl 49, in which Seattle’s controversial pass play led to a game-sealing interception by New England? Does Brady get to take credit for that moment?

“I already thought [Brady] was already one of the greatest, Rivers said to Patrick. “But because [New England] intercepted the pass, he’s now the greatest of all time? What if the Seahawks were to run it? Brady would have just played the exact same game. He didn’t do anything different. It is funny how that works. … That’s why I think Marino is right there in the mix, too. All these guys – you can’t just go off [Super Bowls].”

Patrick also asked Rivers, who’s 0-for-8 all-time against Brady, if he thinks he’s a better quarterback than Brady, to which he replied: “No, I don’t think I can say that. No. (laughs) … We’re oh-fer, so no.”
