Watch PFF’s “State of the Franchise” showcase of the Dolphins

With training camp right around the corner, we are continuing to see media outlets unveil their overviews of each of the NFL’s 32 franchises. NFL.com recently released a “State of the Franchise” spotlight on the Miami Dolphins and yesterday saw Pro Football Focus release their own unique spin on overviewing the Dolphins as a team in this point in time.

For Pro Football Focus’ senior analyst Steve Palazzolo, the Dolphins’ 2019 is all about quarterback Josh Rosen — specifically what the Dolphins have in him and gauging if they as a team want to commit to him.

“It’s just seeing the growth from (Josh) Rosen. Last year, I don’t dock him too much for what happened in Arizona. He was one of our worst quarterbacks from a grading standpoint, one of the worst statistically. But the situation was terrible in Arizona from an offensive line and offensive playmaker situation,” said Palazzolo.

“I don’t think he’s changed much from UCLA, but I think the ideal situation is seeing the guy that made big time throws at UCLA — made NFL type throws in the intermediate level and just good decision making.”

And while the Dolphins’ skill group isn’t where it needs to be, Palazzolo did concede that the skill players in Miami are collectively a step forward for Rosen than what he had to work with in Arizona as well.

Defensively, the Pro Football Focus group was quite complementary of the Dolphins, suggesting that Minkah Fitzpatrick, Xavien Howard and Christian Wilkins are foundational pieces for this team to build around. The biggest question there? The depth, according to Palazzolo.
