WATCH: Pelicans, Celtics honor Kobe Bryant with 24-second violations to open game

The NBA and the world as a whole was rocked on Sunday with the news of the passing of Kobe Bryant. Along with 13-year old daughter Gianna, Bryant was killed in a helicopter crash early on Sunday.

Games would go on as scheduled throughout the day but the tributes were plentiful, starting with the first game of the afternoon. In that contest between the Spurs and Raptors, both sides took 24-second shot clock violations to open the game.

The Pelicans and Celtics carried on that tradition of the day by opening their game with 24-second violations.

On a day when the NBA made a very wrong decision in playing games, the teams themselves got it very right. For the current generation of NBA players, Bryant was many of their basketball idols and the player they grew up watching.

The teams did Bryant right by honoring him in this manner and helped remember his legacy left on the league.
