WATCH: Patriots sign third quarterback to their roster

The New England Patriots signed the third quarterback to their roster Wednesday, adding depth behind Tom Brady and rookie Jarrett Stidham with 26-year-old Cody Kessler. Bill Belichick said the move was about “roster management,” according to NESN.

Kessler was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft, spent two seasons on the roster and was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars in spring 2018. The Jags released the former University of Southern California Trojan in May and Kessler signed a contract with the Philadelphia Eagles three days later.

During the preseason this August, Kessler suffered a concussion and Philly released him before the beginning of the regular season. In three seasons in the NFL, Kessler has 12 starts with a 10-2 record. He’s thrown eight touchdowns and five interceptions.

The 3-0 Patriots visit the 3-0 Buffalo Bills Sunday.
