There’s a blossoming partnership between the Kansas City Chiefs and FC Bayern soccer club.
FC Bayern Munich is set to come to Kansas City in late July to play an International Champions Cup match against AC Milan at Arrowhead Stadium. It’s a new partnership that Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt is very passionate about, and with it comes new opportunities, like getting a star midfielder and quarterback talking similarities between their sports.
Midfielder Thiago Alcântara is one of the star players for FC Bayern with numerous accolades and a reputation as a team leader. Thiago recently joined Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes to talk about the similarities between the midfielder position and the quarterback position.
“I think the biggest similarities between a midfielder and a quarterback have to be that you have to control the pace of the game,” Mahomes said. “You have to make sure that you set the plays. You have to make sure that you make the right decisions.”
For Thiago, there is a different similarity that he was interested in highlighting that is very comparable to Mahomes’ style as a quarterback.
“Improvisation comes very often because you don’t know what the opponent is doing in the same moment when you are on the ball,” Thiago said. “I think a talent like improvisation you must have to get out of such situations.”
