The 2019 NFL Combine officially kicks off today and as per tradition, each of the 32 teams head coaches and general managers take the podium to address the media. The Detroit Lions Matt Patricia and Quinn got in on the action early in the process, each speaking for the full 15-minutes of allotted time.
Patricia touched on a variety of topics including, not personally knowing new offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell before their interview, the difficulties of defending tight ends, what he can improve on in his second year with the organization, defensive scheme, expected growth from last years rookies, and how edge rushers who can win one on one are rare and special players.
Quinn’s topics ranged even further including such topics as, getting to know the players at the Combine, looking for positional versatility, why adding players in free agency is safer than draft picks, keeping options open with the 8th pick, the difficulties of projecting blocking traits of tight ends in college because of scheme, wanting to bring in running backs to supplement Kerryon Johnson, T.J. Lang and Ezekiel Ansah being in the evaluation process, why he’s not ready to give up on Teez Tabor just yet, and lots of praise for Glover Quin.
