Watch: Passenger caught smoking on a plane

A man has left other passengers on his plane in shock by casually lighting up a cigarette mid-flight.

Footage recorded on May 21 during a Spirit Airlines flight to Minneapolis shows a passenger appearing to smoke before leaning back into his seat and closing his eyes.

The woman who filmed the incident, Donni Bee, uploaded the vision to Facebook.

She claimed when she got on the flight the man in the video was sitting in her seat and appeared to be drunk.

"Once everyone boarded the plane I got in my assigned seat and realised his seat was next to mine," she said.

"I breathed in deeply, but told myself that I wouldn't be that person to treat him differently.

"Throughout the flight, I could hear him making loud outbursts. Roughly 40 minutes before we landed, he laid across the two seats with his butt towards me."

The man then reportedly began "aggressively" flipping the tray open and closed before pulling out a cigarette and lighter, news.com.au reports.

Shortly after lighting up, another passenger flagged down an attendant who swiftly put out the cigarette on the tray.

"You cannot smoke in an airplane," the flight attendant can be heard saying.

"It's against the law, you know that right? Where is your boarding pass?"

The man can be heard saying "Oh my God" and putting his head in his hands before pulling out his pass.

When the plane landed the man was reportedly escorted off by airport police.
