Watch part two of Subs Bench's chat with Bristol broadcasting legend Roger Malone

Subs Bench this weekend is part two of their chat with Bristol broadcasting legend Roger Malone.

Malone will be a familiar face to many across the city after being the face of sport on HTV, and

Every Saturday, Malone brought fans the scores of both Bristol City and Bristol Rovers, alongside the likes of Swindon Town and the rugby club.

In this episode, Malone reminisces on managerial bust-ups and his working relationship with Alastair Hignell, who joined HTV to present alongside him.

"We were doing a lot of television," he said. "HTV brought Alastair in and he was cool, like he was under the high ball for England.

"A cool and collected sort of person, he did the rugby, I did the football, we shared the other stuff.

"The one thing I tried to get him to do more was the fact he'd played top class rugby and he should bring some of that out in the rugby slot, but he was too modest to do that."

Malone was subject to an infamous chant from football fans, with everyone agreeing he was a rather rude word.

Reflecting on this, the former broadcaster, now 86, said he always took the abuse in good spirits.

He said: "That chant applies to three: Swindon, City and Rovers.

"At a football match, when the home team's things aren't going right, the first object of abuse will be the referee.

"A portion of the crowd will start giving it to the referee at half-time.

"Then, if there's a good player in the opposition with lovely hair, they're on him like a flash/

"They're looking for someone to have a go at - then, finally, if they see me at half-time coming down for a cup of tea or the loo, then it's a case of giving me a piece of their mind.

"It never worried me at all because it was 200 in a 20,000 crowd."
