The Carolina Panthers used the first pick of Day 3 of the 2018 NFL draft on Indiana tight end Ian Thomas. Reports say that the team refused multiple trade offers from teams looking to move up, but they were intent on getting one specific player and stuck to their guns.
Thomas was a standout over the summer and preseason and expectations were high for the rookie as his first NFL season began. He had some typical growing pains – a drop here, a blown route there – but Thomas eventually pieced it together and put together a respectable campaign. Thomas finished the year with 49 targets. He caught 36 of them, producing a total of 333 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
