WATCH: Panthers QB Cam Newton won’t travel to London with team

Quarterback Cam Newton returned to Panthers practice Tuesday without wearing a walking boot, but he will not travel to London as the team takes on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the second time this season.

Newton played Week 1 and Week 2 for the team, suffering a Lisfranc injury in the Sept. 12 Week 2 Thursday Night Football game versus the Bucs (2-3). Since then, the Panthers won three games with Kyle Allen at quarterback.

While Newton was without a walking boot on his injured left foot Tuesday, head coach Ron Rivera said, “Medically, the best thing is to keep him from being on an airplane for eight hours and standing up all the time.”

The Panthers have their bye week during Week 7 after the team returns from England.
