WATCH: Panthers place Kawann Short on IR with torn rotator cuff

The Carolina Panthers announced Tuesday that team captain and two-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Kawann Short has been placed on injured reserve and will have surgery to fix a partially torn rotator cuff, which he suffered in the team’s Week 2 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“KK has done everything he could possibly do to try to play these past two games,” general manager Marty Hurney said, “but we have made the decision that it is in the best long-term interest of KK and the team that he undergo surgery to fix his shoulder and focus on his rehab and get ready for next season.”

Short is a second-round 2013 NFL draft pick in his seventh season with the Panthers franchise. He signed an $8 million, five-year extension in the spring of 2017.

The Panthers (2-2) host the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-2) Sunday.
