Watch: Panthers DB Ross Cockrell walks barefoot on Soldier Field grass

Panthers cornerback Ross Cockrell broke his leg last year in training camp and missed the entire 2018 season. Tonight’s preseason game against the Bears will be his first since the injury. In this video from team reporter Bill Voth, Cockrell walks out onto the playing surface at Soldier Field to feel the grass under his feet.

Soldier Field is notorious for bad surfaces – in fact it was named the third-worst in the league a few years ago, but it looks pretty good at least in that one portion of the field.

As for Cockrell, he saw some snaps at free safety at training camp recently, but that was before the team brought back Tre Boston on a one-year deal. Cockrell has been a cornerback his entire NFL career to this point. He has experience playing both outside and in the slot.
