WATCH: Panthers Cam Newton to miss second consecutive game due to injury

Last week it took until about 48 hours out to determine whether Cam Newton would be available for the Panthers’ Week 3 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. This week, the team wasted no time in ruling out the quarterback for its Week 4 contest against the Houston Texans.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera said in a statement released Monday morning:

“What Cam needs right now is time and rest for his foot. We want him at 100 percent when he’s ready, so there’s no exact timetable for his return,” head coach Ron Rivera said. “At this point, we’re going to go forward with Kyle (Allen) as our starter.”

Allen was solid for Carolina on Sunday, completing 19 of 26 pass attempts for 261 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in just his second NFL start.
