Watch pair of 1961 Jaguar E-Types that make auction extra special

OH, THE dilemma of being a classic car buyer… you wait decades for an iconic motor to come up at auction and then two beauties appear at once.

The Silverstone Classic Live Online Auction, being staged from July 31 to August 2, is to feature a brace of 1961 E-Type Jaguars – offered individually at no reserve.

They form part of the SA-30 Collection – made up of 30 exceptional vehicles chosen to celebrate 30 years of the annual event at the famous motorsport venue, cancelled on this anniversary year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Other marques featured in the sale in honour of the three-day Silverstone Classic car and race spectacular include Ferrari, Bentley, Mercedes-Benz, Triumph, Lotus, Austin Mini and AC Cars.

The Jaguar coupe and roadster both stand out as extremely desirable early E-Types – retaining all their original features – and they have been part of two significant private collections for 20 years. The coupe was the 249th built and the roadster was the 598th model to come off the line.

Silverstone Auctions boss Nick Whale said: “These two E-Types are just the best you could possibly ask for. To have the opportunity to own two of the earliest cars in this condition is an extremely rare opportunity.

“Both of these cars have been cherished by the two previous owners, who knew the importance of them. To own two with the same colour bodywork and interior is quite rare and Silverstone Auctions are extremely honoured to have been asked to sell them for our client, a well-respected collector.”
