Watch out for fake items for sale in Perth car park

Police Scotland is appealing for witnesses after a man was spotted selling designer clothes and high value watches from a supermarket car park in Perth.

The suspect is described as 50 to 60 years old, large build, broad shoulders, dark hair, spoke with an accent, possibly Italian, called himself Antonio and claimed to have links both in Dundee and Perth.

The goods were in the man’s car, which is described only as a dark grey, medium to large car.

He was trying to sell two designer leather jackets and three high-end watches worth in excess of £800 each.

His story, as reported to police by the member of the public, was that he was due to return to Italy and was selling because he did not wish to pay customs duty on the items.

The male offered a member of the public all of the items for £500, which was refused, and then offered all the items for £100, which was again refused.

Anyone who is approached by this individual should contact police on 101.

Police believe it highly likely that all of the items for sale were counterfeit and would be of poor quality.

A spokesperson from Police Scotland Tayside division partnerships intervention and prevention team said: “If approached by this male or anyone else using the same selling tactics, please remember, if a deal seems too good to be true, it most probably is and you will be left with poor quality goods with no chance of a refund.

“If you buy counterfeit goods, you’re helping the trader to break the law.”
