Houston Texans outside linebacker Whitney Mercilus took advantage of an Indianapolis Colts miscue that led to some points to cut into the home side’s lead.
On third-and-14 from the Colts’ 16-yard line, the Colts are running an empty backfield and the center has trouble snapping the ball to quarterback Jacoby Brissett. As a result, the Texans rush into the backfield for the loose ball, and Mercilus comes away with it.
The takeaway led to a 31-yard field goal from kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn to help Houston trim the Colts’ lead 7-6 midway through the second quarter.
