WATCH: Ohio State lands nation’s No. 1 WR for 2020

Ohio State landed the No. 1 ranked wide receiver for the class of 2020 Friday morning when Julian Fleming committed to the Buckeyes with a video saying “Ohio State is home.”

The 6-foot-2, 199-pound five-star WR’s other top schools included Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and Penn State. Fleming explained that his relationship in particular with grad assistant-turned wide receivers coach Brian Hartline sealed the deal. Hartline was the primary recruiter for Fleming, beginning before he was promoted to replace the fired Zach Smith, and the athlete said that regular FaceTime conversations helped develop their bond.

Fleming also said his relationship with former offensive coordinator Ryan Day (who was made interim, then full-time head coach last winter when Urban Meyer retired) made OSU the place to be. The commit boasts a 4.63-second 40-yard dash, a 37.4-inch vertical and a 23-foot long jump. He’s tabbed as a wide receiver, but players with Fleming’s specs are why many recruits are simply going by “athlete,” before picking their school these days.
