WATCH: Ohio State guard Meechie Johnson hits deep three to take down Seton Hall

Well, that was fun.

While you are getting geeked out for this weekend’s game between Ohio State and Michigan, we’re here to remind you that the Buckeye hoops team is playing some pretty important ball as well. The team traveled down to sunny Florida to participate in the Fort Myers Tip-off, and the squad’s first game was against a No. 21 ranked Seton Hall team that just finished disposing of Michigan on the court late last week.

Couple that with OSU still trying to find out which players are the ones it wants to rotate and group together, and with the team also still looking to improve on a rather ho-hum start, and well — it was a challenge.

But the Buckeyes were up to the task. They led most of the contest, and almost the entire second half, but the Pirates kept chipping away tied it up late. After a few turns at the free-throw line and some back and forth, Ohio State found itself tied 76-76 with a chance to take the last shot. As OSU brought the ball up the court, the ball was swung over to Meechie Johnson, Jr., who shot one of those “no, no, no — nice shot” deals from five feet beyond the three-point line.

Down it went, and Seton Hall’s last-ditch effort to get a quality shot off with just 1.8 seconds remaining fell short, giving OSU a much-needed 79-76 victory.

If you didn’t see the March worthy moment, do yourself a favor and dial it up below thanks to the Fox College Hoops Twitter account.

As Bill Raftery — who was calling the game would say — Onions! Well done Johnson. It’s becoming increasingly clear that his confidence has taken a big step forward for this team, and with so many unknowns and minutes up for grabs, if Johnson can continue to perform like this, he’s going to be a big, big part of this squad’s ability to go wherever it does.
