The Ohio State football program is collectively joining the rest of the country in calling for change in the wake of George Floyd’s tragic while in the custody of a Minneapolis police officer. We’ve seen this story all too many times and this time change needs to happen.
The program shared a video to its social platforms on Monday to call for change and action after the African American community was again hit by what seems like a needless and senseless death.
Ohio State football players Jonathon Cooper, C.J. Saunders, Chris Olave, Wyatt Davis, Tyreke Smith, Marcus Williamson, Shaun Wade, Luke Farrell, Justin Fields, Sevyn Banks, Drue Chrisman, Josh Myers, Tuf Borland, Master Teague, Pete Werner, and Justin Hilliard, along with head coach Ryan Day all united with one powerful video and message.
It was all set to the hash-tags #BlackLivesMatter and #FightForChange. It has since been retweeted by several members of the football team and beyond, and you can see the entire video below, or click through to the next page to get the full text of what was shared.

Ohio State football call to action
“Don’t ignore George Floyd. His senseless killing at the hands of law enforcement has shaken this nation at its core. His death, along with countless others, has once again brought these injustices to the forefront of our society. For far too long, Black Americans have suffered under systems of racism and oppression. This time, it’s different. This time we’ve had enough.”
“As members of the Ohio State football team, we have a platform not only in Central Ohio, but around the globe. With this platform, it is our duty to promote awareness and evoke change. We will no longer stand silent as these issues continue to plague our friends, citizens, neighbors, and teammates.”
“We stand in solidarity with the black community and equal rights for all. This is not white versus black. This is everyone against racism. As a team, we’ve committed ourselves to fight for change. And now, we’re asking for you to join us.”
We hear you, and we too would like to implore others to join this fight.
