Watch Odsonne Edouard score two France U21 debut goals as Celtic striker is hailed by French media

Move over Moussa Dembele, there’s a new striker par excellence on the scene.

Odsonne Edouard made his France U21 debut on Thursday night and immediately helped coach Slyvain Ripoli forget about the Lyon frontman.

Dembele no longer qualifies for L’Espoirs but thankfully for the French, Edouard has picked up from where his former Celtic team-mate left off.

The 21-year-old scored two goals on his debut against Albania having started on the bench. Edouard netted his first on 77 minutes before grabbing his second one minute before full time in the 4-0 victory.

It capped a fine week for the former Paris Saint-Germain forward, having scored against Rangers in the 2-0 victory at Ibrox.

French media saluted his performance, with respected outlet L’Equipe naming him their man of the match despite having only come on with 70 minutes on the clock.

A report read: "Entering the game twenty minutes from the end, Odsonne Edouard has made the difference twice.

"Well placed and opportunistic, he left no chance to the opposing goalkeeper. In a position where competition is tough, he has already sent a signal to his coach, Sylvain Ripoll."

Edouard netted 23 goals last season after making his move from the Ligue 1 champions permanent in a record-breaking £9million deal.

He has already scored six goals for Neil Lennon’s side in this campaign.
