WATCH: Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald heaps praise on Ohio State

If there’s anyone that knows how good this year’s Ohio State team is, it’s a squad that’s gone toe-to-toe with it. So far, that’s seven total teams. Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald is now in that population, having being run off the field by Ryan Day’s bunch 52-3 on Friday night.

Fitzgerald had some very complimentary things to say after the game in his postgame press conference, calling the Buckeyes “the best team in the country.” But he doubled down on it Monday during his weekly press conference and expounded even more.

When being asked about what he saw Friday, the Wildcats head man didn’t hold back, going on an almost one-minute explanation on why Ohio State is so good.

He started out by talking about guys being covered and nobody being open in the passing game because the Buckeyes two-deep in the secondary are likely all to be drafted in the NFL. That’s all ten guys if you’re counting.

Then he went further on his claim that the Buckeyes are the best team in the country.

“That group in Columbus has played clean every game and that’s a great credit to them,” said Fitzgerald. “That’s why if I had a ballot I’d vote them number one in the country right now. Nobody’s playing cleaner … nobody’s playing cleaner. I’ve watched some other teams play this weekend — you know they’re the best team in the country right now, and they’re playing that way too. They’re coached that way, they’re playing that way, they’re executing that way, and obviously they’re incredibly talented.

You can watch some of what Fitzgerald said when meeting with the local media Monday and judge for yourself what he thinks of Ohio State.

Are you sold yet? The Northwestern head coach certainly is.
