Watch New York helicopter flying erratically 'moments before crashing into skyscraper'

A helicopter involved in the New York crash was seen flying erratically moments before it smashed onto a skyscraper in Manhattan.

Eyewitnesses watched in horror as the helicopter took a series of nose dives and shock movements over the Hudson River just moments before the crash.

The footage, shared by Twitter user Wendy, has been re-posted hundreds of times following the incident.

At least one person, the helicopter pilot, has died after the crash in Manhattan - close to both Times Square and Central Park.

An NYPD spokesperson said said: "There was a helicopter hard landing on the roof of 787 7th Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. Fire has been extinguished. Please continue to avoid the area."

Photos posted on Twitter show multiple emergency service vehicles, including many appliances, at the site.

Other video posted online shows black smoke billowing out near the top of the building.

It is thought the crash landing at the AXA Equitable Center took place shortly before 2pm local time

It was not immediately known what type of helicopter was involved.

Governor Andrew Cuomo told reporters that a fire began when the aircraft hit but is under control. He said it shook the building, but there were no reports of injuries in the tower.
