Watch new Simple Minds video for Midnight Walking

Simple Minds
Themes of exile and migration … Simple Minds

Taken from Simple Minds’ latest album Big Music, the bold synthpop anthem Midnight Walking touches on themes of exile, people on the move, immigration. “It’s been the story of time. I’m a product of it in terms of having Irish lineage, my family came to Scotland for the same reasons, to earn a living,” says frontman Jim Kerr.

He continues: “I was thinking of my 17-year-old son and his mates in north London, all of them skint and just cruising/hanging around. That in turn got me thinking of people on the move all over the world, for one reason or other, ‘all those people, marching people, trying to find somewhere to go.’”

The video – premiered here – ties up Midnight Walking’s concept neatly. With a series of time-lapse videos, it captures cityscapes, northern lights, battery chickens, bungee jumping and other images that encompass the constantly moving modern world.

The single is out on 13 April via Caroline International – watch the video below and tell us your thoughts.
