WATCH: Nets coach takes Kyrie Irving to doctor after getting elbowed in the mouth

It has been quite a week for the Brooklyn Nets as the team prepares to open training camp Saturday. Now, Kyrie Irving has been checked out by a doctor after taking an elbow to the mouth during a game of pickup basketball at the Nets team facility.

Monday, the team showed off its new all-gray court and received high praise for the clean, sharp ode to the city. Tuesday, though, brought less-than-great news.

General Manager Sean Marks held a press conference, and head coach Kenny Atkinson was scheduled to speak too, but the GM had to explain the coach’s absence when he did not step to the podium. Atkinson had to leave the facility to accompany Irving to the doctor.

“Kyrie gets checked out like everybody else,” Marks said. “We always send staff with them (to the doctor) and this is a great opportunity for Kenny to be with him.”

The GM would not disclose if there was blood after the contact to Irving’s face, nor would he share any details about the scene.

Brooklyn is set to make public its roster on Friday and if Irving is available to talk to the media, it will be his first public comments since he signed his four-year, $141 million deal with the Nets June 30.

The Nets also announced Tuesday that Kevin Durant is not expected to play at all during the 2019-2020 season.
