Watch Neil Lennon's Celtic press conference in full as Cluj observation earns playful response

Focused Neil Lennon has urged his players to ditch the passive approach that ended their Champions League dreams at the hands of Cluj.

The Hoops boss admits lessons have been learned from the 4-3 defeat against the Romanians as the pair get ready to renew acquaintances in the Europa League .

Lennon insists revenge isn't Celtic 's primary motivation as they look to secure all three points and boost their prospects of reaching the last 32.

And an observation from the assembled media about Dan Petrescu's high-press that caught the Hoops cold last time earned a wry smile from the 48-year-old.

Lennon playfully responded: "Did they (use a high press)?

"Listen, you've just got to manage the game. So if they play a high press, or if they sit off us, we're a team who likes to be on the front foot. We want to try and take the game to them.

"We did that very well in the second half last time but we left ourselves with a lot to do after conceding the first goal, by playing passively.

"It's important that we look at that and learn from that."

The Hoops boss once again backed his decision to leave summer signings Christopher Jullien and Boli Bolingoli on the bench for the clash between the sides back in August.

Lennon received criticism in some quarters for failing to include the pair - with star midfielder Callum McGregor starting at left-back ahead of the Belgian.

Lennon added: "You always look at things in hindsight but some of the players just weren't ready.

"You can make a big issue out of it but to score three goals at home and not to go through was disappointing."

Meanwhile, the Celtic boss has endorsed Parkhead legend and former team-mate Henrik Larsson who is in the mix to land the Southend job.

The Swedish icon is on the shortlist of candidates for the vacancy with the League One side and Lennon reckons he would be a strong contender.

He said: "I'd love to see him back in the game.

"He's got a wealth of knowledge, he's an intelligent guy, he was a very intelligent player.

"He's got experience in the coaching game. He knows the game.

"It might be a bit of a different culture for him at Southend but it will be an interesting one and we wish him all the best."
