Watch Neil Lennon's Celtic press conference as he makes hilarious Callum McGregor quip

Callum McGregor had a well deserved break on Sunday when Celtic faced Clyde in the Scottish Cup.

He's already played 48 games this season for club and country, on top of the 69 he played over the course of the last campaign.

McGregor will make it 49 on Wednesday night when he's back in midfield to face Hearts in the Premiership.

It's an incredible figure for the 26-year-old who has been so consistent throughout and Neil Lennon is a huge fan of him.

He feels he's vital to the Hoops team and always knows what is expected of him.

But is he better further forward or lying deep? He's great in both, reckons Lennon.

And he was quick to joke about the amount of game time McGregor has had this season as he heaped praise on the Scotland star.

He said: "It just depends on what formation we want to play or whether we want him to play alongside Brown in a two and a one or a one and a two.

"He adapts. Tactically he’s very astute, you don’t have to give Cal too many instructions. He understands his role in the team. It’s just so natural for him.

"At Motherwell he was outstanding and again, it was a bonus to give him a break because he’s played so much football. So he’ll be fresh for tomorrow. Well, as fresh as you can get after playing 497 games this season already.

"I like him in the forward areas. He’s clever, he’s bright, he’s creative. He’s weighed in with a few goals as well which has delighted me as well."
