WATCH: NBA ref Ron Garretson arrested for extreme DUI

NBA official Ron Garretson was arrested Wednesday in Arizona for an extreme DUI, according to ABC 15, after the orange Jeep Wrangler he was driving hit a tree near an intersection head on.

Garretson has officiated more than 1,900 NBA games over a 32-year career. When police interviewed him after the accident, he said he circled around and someone hit him. The officers noted that the story he told did not make sense. Garretson admitted to having “a shot and a beer,” according to ABC 15, at a cigar bar and refused medical transport after being tended to by medics.

Garretson agreed to impairment tests, but both were cut short because of his inability to balance. At the police station, Garretson blew a .0192 and .0195, which is more than twice the legal limit. That level of BAC caused him to be charged with an extreme DUI.
