Watch: Mysterious Alsatian-sized cat caught on film

A woman received an almighty shock when she spotted a big cat roaming a field in Cornwall.

Becky Abrey had been out for a meal and a walk along the beach on Sunday when she spotted the enormous moggy, reports Cornwall Live.

Police took plaster casts of the paw prints, each measuring 4.5 inches, and the RSPCA confirmed they came from a large cat.

Birthday surprise

Becky had just been out for lunch to celebrate her 29th birthday on April 7 and was walking back to the car with her mother and fiancé.

She said: "We had just had Sunday lunch and went for a walk on the beach and came back to the car and it was just on the field. It was the car park opposite the bar and looks up towards the field.

"I was on the phone with my fiancé's grandmother wishing me a happy birthday and just said, 'there's a big cat, I've got to put the phone down.

"I've seen so many articles about them and there are never any pictures of them and I wanted to get pictures and video.

"I didn't want to get too close and zoomed in and out so you can get some perspective. It was at least Alsatian sized or bigger.

"When I read about them I always think, 'it's just a decent-sized farm cat' but this certainly wasn't.

“It's crazy. I still can't quite believe it. Honestly, it was huge, far bigger than any domestic cat.

"I feel like I imagined everyone saw it. It's like seeing the Loch Ness Monster.”

Previous sightings

Rumours of big cats stalking Cornwall have existed for a long time, with regular sightings across the county.

There’s a long-standing tale of the Beast of Bodmin, preying on animals in the local area.

A week ago a man saw his Labrador attacked by a mysterious large beast, reporting that he had previously seen it carrying a lamb across a wall behind their garden

In a village near to Callington several cats have also been reported missing.
