WATCH: Mumbai Indians' 'new Malinga' Nuwan Thushara claims hat-trick ahead of IPL 2024

NEW DELHI: Nuwan Thushara grabbed a maiden over hat-trick and finished 5-20 to help Sri Lanka pummel Bangladesh in Saturday's Twenty20 series decider. Thusara was bought by Mumbai Indians for a whopping Rs 4.2 crore for the IPL 2024.

Bangladesh were bowled out for 146 in the final over in Sylhet despite late efforts by Rishad Hossain and Taskin Ahmed, who top-scored with 53 and 31 respectively.

Thushara clean bowled Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain (one) and Towhid Hridoy (nought) off the second and third delivery of his first over in the series, completing the hat-trick by trapping Mahmudullah Riyad lbw in the next ball.

"I'm really happy, it was the first hat-trick in my life," he said afterward. "In a match like this, I'm just pleased to be able to help the team."

Man of the match Thushara completed his maiden five-wicket haul by forcing Shoriful Islam to give a catch at midwicket.

"Credit goes to Nuwan Thushara the way he bowled, I think he bowled brilliantly," said Bangladesh captain Najmul.

Apart from Thushara, Mumbai Indians also signed Dilshan Madushanka for Rs 4.6 crore and South African speedster Gerald Coetzee for Rs 5 crore to bolster their pace attack for the IPL 2024.
