WATCH: More than 300 birds slam into NASCAR Hall of Fame building in Charlotte

Hundreds of birds hit the glass exterior of the NASCAR Hall of Fame building in Charlotte, North Carolina Tuesday, leaving an estimated 100 dead and another 100 severely injured.

A Charlotte woman discovered the disturbing scene of injured and/or dead birds scattered around the concrete surrounding the building in uptown. In the video, the woman speaks to another person who says she’s a worker at the building at that the birds had been hitting the clear walls for hours.

The Carolina Waterfowl Rescue told WSOC in Charlotte that more than 300 birds had flown into the building, that about one-third of them were dead and another third were “severely injured with broken wings, legs or other fractures.” The Rescue is taking donations to care for those injured birds and said the final third of the birds were “stunned,” and hopefully will be released in a few days (according to the Rescue’s Facebook page).

The Charlotte Observer reports that the birds are chimney swifts.
