Watch moment van smashes into car and two men flee minutes before shooting in Glasgow street

A van driven by two men ploughed into a car on a Glasgow street minutes before a man was shot by a gunman just yards away.

The grey transit crashed into a green Mercedes in the Milton area of Glasgow, before two male occupants were filmed fleeing the scene last night.

Less than 30 minutes later, a 44-year-old man was shot on Westray Street.

He has been locally named as John McGregor and is fighting for his life in hospital.

The footage shows a transit van, which has crashed into the front of a green Mercedes parked in the street.

One man can be seen running back into the van, before the vehicle races away at speed.

A second video taken later on is believed to show the transit van lying abandoned in a nearby street, flanked by police cars.

A source said: "The crash was deliberate - this is all part of a big feud between those involved.

"It was a warning of what was to come."

An eye witness told the Record how the gunman's firearm jammed as he tried to shoot at the victim, before a second shot was blasted at point-blank range.

The resident initially thought the man was carrying a plank of wood before realising it was a shotgun.

Shocking footage showed a man carrying a shotgun casually running back to a getaway car after the horror shooting.

The eyewitness said: "The victim got shot at point blank range. When the guy first went to shoot him, it’s as if the gun jammed and he had to try again.

“It was a bullet right to the chest.

"The victim just collapsed, and the man with the gun ran off and got into a white car."

"It looked like he was carrying a long bit of wood, but then it turned out to be a shotgun.

“There were kids out playing in the street - three wee boys who looked shocked.

It is understood three locals rushed to the bleeding victim's aid and comforted him before the ambulance arrived and mercy crews took over.

The eyewitness added: "After it happened three women from different houses came out with towels and one woman was giving the guy CPR. The ambulance didn’t come for around 25-30 minutes.

“There were two ambulances and around 10 paramedics. They were all surrounding him and worked on him on the street for about 45 minutes.

"You see stuff like this on TV but you never think there’s going to be a shooting on your street.

“It’s really quite scary, everyone is frightened."

Forensic officers remained at the scene on Friday, as uniformed police continue to stand guard at the estate.

Both ends of the street have been taped off as enquiries into the incident remain ongoing.

Police Scotland did not give further detail when asked if the two incidents were linked.

Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Grainger, of Police Scotland, said: "Around 7.55pm on Thursday, August 26, 2021 police received a report of a man being found seriously injured on Westray Street Glasgow.

"Emergency services attended the scene and a 44-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with life threatening injuries.

"Enquiries, which are currently at an early stage, are ongoing and a police presence will remain in the area."
