Watch moment masked raider kicks way into Indian takeaway in Newcastle

This is the shocking moment a callous thief uses a tool and kicks in the door of a Newcastle takeaway.

The brazen thief can be seen trying to pry open the door of Westmoor Tandoori on Great Lime Road before kicking it repeatedly.

It appears the culprit hears something and hides behind a nearby bin before trying again.

Eventually, the masked man manages to break the lock and makes his way inside the building.

Manager Sheju Ali, 34, said it is the third time in a matter of weeks the takeaway has been targeted, who has stolen hundreds of pounds, a tablet, charity box and has caused significant damage to the door each time.

Sheju said the shop opened in 1996 and there has never been any trouble until now.

"It is a family-run business and we have never had any issues or problems," he said. "We are nice to everyone, never any trouble.

"Then in the last three weeks he has broken into our takeaway three times and also done our pizza shop next door."

Other businesses in the area have also been targeted, Sheju said.

"It is no good for anybody," he said. "We are working hard, making some money, paying our bills, then someone puts us through this. He acts so brave, looking up, knowing a camera is there."

Sheju said they have had to replace the door and glass each time they have been broken into.

He added: "We are all really upset because it has never happened before.

"Our customers are really nice and we have been here for so long everyone knows each other."

Sheju would like to see police increase patrols in the area.

He said: "We have contacted the police but don't feel like it has been taken seriously.

"We never see a police car going around here."

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "We are investigating a number of burglaries which occurred at West Moor Tandoori in Great Lime Road, North Tyneside.

“On each occasion it is believed the offender has gained entry by smashing the glass panel of the front door and taken an amount of cash from the premises.

“Inquiries are currently ongoing and anyone with information should contact police by calling 101 quoting log 257 31/03/19.”
