Watch moment King Charles and Camilla pelted with eggs on visit

A video shows the exact moment a man started pelting King Charles III and Camilla with eggs on a royal visit. The dramatic footage shows the visit proceeding as planned with crowds lining the street.

However it quickly turned nasty as a man who loudly booed began hurling eggs at the new king - who, ever the professional, didn't even flinch. Police and royal protection officers quickly leapt into action to grab the man, who was wrestled to the ground during the York walkabout.

Police officers at Micklegate Bar were seen restraining the suspect on the ground behind temporary fencing set up in the city for the King’s visit on Wednesday.

The King and Queen Consort were being welcomed to York by city leaders when the protester, who was shouting about historic slavery, threw three eggs at them, all of which missed before the pair were ushered away.

The man was heard to shout “this country was built on the blood of slaves” as he was being detained by around four police officers.

In other pictures the broken eggs can clearly be seen on the ground, but none seemed to hit the King.

Other people in the crowd started chanting “God save the King” and “shame on you” at the protester. Charles and Camilla are visiting Yorkshire to carry out a number of engagements on Wednesday.

They were in York to attend the unveiling of a statue of Queen Elizabeth II, the first to be installed since her death.
