Watch: Michael Thomas, Teddy Brigewater team up for a TD vs. Bucs

The New Orleans Saints are locked in a closely-matched game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, one of their chief rivals in the NFC South. Backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was able to score his first touchdown of the day with a strike to wide receiver Michael Thomas outside the end zone; Thomas was able to tiptoe down the sideline before lowering a shoulder and leaping for the pylon, stretching his arms out in a full extension to break the plane before his knees could hit the turf.

It was a great play by both players, though Thomas did most of the work. Bridgewater was able to get the ball to Thomas quickly enough for his receiver to set his feet and advance upfield. You can see the scoring play where it’s embedded below.

The scoring play followed an earlier 34-yard connection between Thomas and Bridgewater, proving the quarterback has plenty of arm to stretch the field. Questions surrounding Bridgewater’s ability (or willingness) to take these kind of shots deep downfield have been raised since he replaced Drew Brees in the huddle, but this success will go a long way towards easing those concerns and building Bridgewater’s confidence.
