Mayor Lori Lightfoot is holding a news conference Friday to announce plans for combating potential violence over the upcoming weekend.
Peaceful protests last weekend over the death of George Floyd by Minneapolis police turned violent and led to rioting and looting downtown as well as on the South and West Sides, leading Lightfoot to impose an ongoing 9 p.m. curfew Saturday night.
At the same time, Chicago saw 85 people shot, 24 of them fatally. More than half of the weekend’s victims were shot on Sunday as the city reeled from violent protests Saturday night that led to hundreds of arrests.
