Quarterback Matthew Stafford was mic’d up for the Detroit Lions 2020 season finale against the Minnesota Vikings and the video was a great behind-the-scenes peek at Stafford’s value both on the field and on the sidelines.
With the state of the franchise in flux and Stafford entering a pivotal section of his contract, his future is in Detroit is unclear. If he is moved this offseason, this would be Lions’ fan’s last opportunity to see him suit up on Honolulu Blue.
If he stays in Detroit, fans will get a chance to see why he so beloved by teammates and the type of leadership he provides the Lions.
The video opens up with Stafford warning up, making his way through his teammates, and keeping the mood focused but light. Stafford interactions are easy. He jokes with Ty Warren, who was stepping up to coach the defensive line for the second straight game, just as easily as he does third-string quarterback David Blough.
It didn’t take long before he hooked up with Marvin Jones for a touchdown and it’s obvious to see how five years of spending time together — on and off the field — helps make for a seamless relationship.
Throughout the game, Stafford makes his way through his teammates, encouraging them to repeat success, while also supporting them when the defense was on the wrong side of an inexplicable penalty call. His leadership was on full display, despite the circumstances surrounding the game.
