Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson are getting the superhero treatment ahead of the “Monday Night Football” matchup courtesy of Marvel Entertainment. Disney, which owns Marvel and ESPN, arranged a pretty cool pregame collaboration that we first learned about when ESPN announced their “MVP Monday” coverage.
In the Marvel and NFL player mashup, Mahomes, Jackson and their respective teammates are drawn up as comic-book-style superheroes, flashing back and forth between live game shots and animated comic images. There’s a narration by the great Samuel L. Jackson, who famously plays Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Jackson does a wonderful job hyping up the matchup between these two teams and the note he signs off on is as iconic as ever. Basically, this is everything that a fan of the NFL and Marvel could ever hope for.
It’s unclear if this is the full video that is set to debut on ESPN ahead of the Week 3 contest between the two teams. I’d wager that there could be a slightly extended narration and video during ESPN’s “Monday Night Countdown.” Be sure to tune in to that as well.
