Watch Mark Gillespie's brilliant initiation song at Newcastle that's caught Ronan Keating's attention

This was the moment new Newcastle goalkeeper Mark Gillespie initiated himself into the Magpies group.

Gillespie, who joined Newcastle on a free transfer from Motherwell last month, is a close friend of Paul Dummett after the pair rose through the ranks at United.

Although Dummett went on to graduate from the academy to the first team, Gillespie's journey was a little more complicated.

But after spells at Carlisle, Walsall and Motherwell, he has finally made the step up into the first team of his boyhood club at the age of 28.

Gillespie will assume the role of Newcastle's third choice goalkeeper and has fitted into the group seamlessly over the last few weeks.

Newcastle's pre-season is under way with the new Premier League campaign set to start in just over three weeks' time. The Magpies are being put through their paces in a training camp in York and, as is tradition on the first away trip of any new signing, Gillespie was given the task of singing an initiation song.

Ronan Keating's 'Life is a Rollercoaster' was the new boy's song of choice and he took to Twitter to explain the brilliant reason behind it.

He said: "[The] Song choice has caused controversy but Miggy said he loved Ronan as a kid and never got to see him live!"

Brilliantly, the Boyzone star was impressed by Gillespie's rendition as he tweeted: "Love it. Go Mark," to which Gillespie replied: "Thanks. Let me know if you need any help on the 11th when you're back in Newcastle."

You can watch Gillespie's initiation song, as recorded on team-mate Sean Longstaff's Instagram account, above.

We just hope you enjoy it as much as Miguel Almiron did!
