WATCH: Marcus Smart celebrates half-court shot at Celtics practice

In preparation for their Saturday matchup on the road against the Chicago Bulls, the Boston Celtics went to Evanston, Ill. to practice at Northwestern University’s Welsh-Ryan Arena.

While at the Big Ten basketball facility, Marcus Smart decided to practice his hail mary shot, hoisting up a half-court heave from the middle of the big, purple Northwestern “N”. Smart made the shot look easier than some of his regular three-pointers, finding nothing but the bottom of the net.

He felt it was a shot well worth celebrating.

Smart spoke to Jay King of The Athletic about the flip after practice:

I don’t want to scare the organization so I kind of chilled out with them. They’ll come out here and there. You’ve just gotta catch it. It’s like an eclipse. You don’t always see it but when you do it’s something spectacular.

As impressive as the flip was, Smart has the right idea about not doing it too frequently.
