Man dies after participating in taco eating contest at a MiLB game

A man is dead after participating in a taco eating contest at a MiLB game Tuesday night. Dana Hutchings, a 41-year-old, was rushed from the Fresno Grizzlies park to a nearby hospital Tuesday and was dead upon arrival according to the Fresno County Coroner’s office.

The Grizzlies, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, confirmed Tuesday that Hutchings did leave the game in an ambulance. Wednesday, the team shared a statement saying it was “devastated to learn that the fan who received medical attention following an event at Tuesday evening’s game has passed away.”

The autopsy is scheduled for Thursday and there is no official cause of death confirmed, although the spokesman for the coroner’s office confirmed to the Fresno Bee that emergency medical personnel did remove food from Hutchings’ throat at the hospital.
