WATCH: LSU commit Maurice Hampton rejected MLB teams offering nearly $1.8 million signing bonus

LSU commit Maurice Hampton Jr. turned down calls from MLB teams offering up to nearly $1.8 million in signing bonuses, according to his father, Maurice Hampton Sr.

The two-sport Tigers commit will play as a cornerback and outfielder for LSU’s football and baseball teams this coming year after potential MLB suitors didn’t meet the amount Maurice Sr. decided it would take for his son to turn down going to college.

The lowest amount the athlete would’ve been allowed to accept was a signing bonus of about $2.75 million. That number was calculated by the Hampton family taking the average upper-class income — they set it at $98,000 per year — and wanting Hampton Jr. to be set for the next 15 years, so he’d need to net around $1.75 million to make that happen.

Hampton Sr. identified teams that called and were declined as Cincinnati, Arizona, Texas, Kansas City, and St. Louis.
