The Detroit Lions have released the third episode of “Inside the Den: Training Camp with the Detroit Lions.”
This episode is focused around the Lions’ joint practices and Week 1 preseason game with the New England Patriots, and opens with a humorous moment from Patriots coach Bill Belichick’s first press conference in Allen Park.
After the series introduction, the scene cuts to coach Matt Patricia riding in on his ATV to an interview with NFL Network’s Willie McGinest and sets the table for joint practices. The hitting begins quickly after and fans get a nice look at some of the Lions highlights from that week of practices.
The section on joint practices wraps up with a nice quote from Belichick and how he views Patricia’s status within the organization.
“I have tremendous about of respect for Bob (Quinn) and Matt (Patricia),” Belichick said. “Matt just did a tremendous job for me (as defensive coordinator), really understands the game. He works extremely hard. He’s very smart and I think intellectually and philosophically that there’s a good connection between Matt and the Ford family and Mrs. Ford. I know the Ford family is very supportive of Matt, and I know that they know, he’s working as hard as he can — literally 24 hours a day, to put the best possible team on the field.”
At the 7-minute mark, the game begins. There are several highlights — in a game that lacked them from a Lions perspective— including an early Brandon Powell catch and run, explosiveness from rookie Ty Johnson, as well as pass breakups from Jamal Agnew and Dee Virgin.
The video comes to its conclusion with a look at a players’ day off, where Marvin Jones, Danny Amendola and A’Shawn Robinson visited the Big House in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to watch an FC Barcelona soccer practice.
