Watch Leigh Griffiths continue Celtic's Christmas Appeal as he reveals pride in following Tommy Burns footsteps

Celtic star Leigh Griffiths admits he's honoured to be following in Tommy Burns footsteps after making a visit to Loaves and Fishes.

The striker visited the foodbank in East Kilbride as part of Celtic Charity Foundation's Christmas Appeal.

The appeal has helped Loaves and Fishes in the past and money donated has helped them provide an extra night of warm meals throughout the year on a Wednesday.

The organisation has been running for 30 years and started out as a soup kitchen before opening up a foobank.

They also offer warm meals throughout the week in Glasgow city centre and want to keep helping people.

Hoops legend Burns has previously visited to help and Griffiths said: “Loaves and Fishes are doing a great job and I’m delighted to help.

“Charitable giving is a massive part of the club’s identity and the fundraising through the Foundation’s Christmas Appeal in the past has helped a lot of charities. I know that Tommy Burns was here to provide a helping hand at this particular organisation in the past and it’s great to follow in his footsteps.

“It’s crucial that the supporters get behind the Christmas Appeal this year. The money raised in the past and donated to Loaves and Fishes helps put on an extra meal for those at a very difficult time of year.”

Griffiths helped out at the foodbank by packing parcels and toiletries for those in need.

One volunteer, Frank Cassidy, admitted seeing Griffiths down to help has been a boost.

He said: “To see Leigh down here in his spare time, rolling up his sleeves and helping out was absolutely fantastic.”
