LeBron James is more focused on his community efforts than the Los Angeles Lakers coaching search this week, it seems. The NBA star was in Akron, Ohio, on Thursday to present the I Promise School with a $1 million donation.
The I Promise School opened in the summer of 2018 in James’ hometown and is a partner project between the LeBron James Family Foundation and Akron Public Schools. The school targets students who are at-risk for reading or need academic intervention before falling behind their peers. The donation was provided through a grant from the Dick’s Sporting Goods Foundation. The funds will go toward building a new gym.
